window wave

Justin has a tradition of going to the window to wave at me after I drop him off at Lily Pond.  Today Jack was there and he joined in.

digging holes

I have grand plans for the back yard but they cost money and take time.  We rarely use the back yard so it is often out of sight out of mind.  But last night we were out there and I was whacking up weeds and I finally caved in to my desire to get rid of the horrible peanut butter bush that was out there.  Not sure if peanut butter bush is it's actual name, but the leaves smell like peanut butter.  I have just never been nuts about it so I got out the saw and down it came!  Today I also tore out 2 rose bushes that had died.  We picked up 3 arborvitae from Home Depot and got them in the ground.  We actually need a total of 7 but I knew I would not be able to dig that many holes today.  The bushes are pretty short now but when they grow in they will give us some much needed privacy.

more watering

I patched up the front yard over the weekend with new dirt and seed.
So I give it a good soak to encourage its growth
and the hot sun this week is helping too.

Usually at this point in the summer I am burnt out on watering and caring for the yard.
But this year with the late arrival of summer I am still going and growing strong!

trash is treasured

Our renter works at the waste management center {aka:  the dump} and sometimes he brings stuff home.  Today he saved a big box of Star Wars Legos he spotted just before they were to be scooped into a bigger trash pile or a hole or where ever the trash gets scooped. The box was crunched but taped shut.  Inside were what appeared to be most of the pieces, unopened bags of pieces, instructions and stickers.  This huge ship has 1300+ pieces.  We got started on it last night and so far the only thing that is missing is the 7 Lego dudes that come with the set.  Our guess is that someone started to build it, stopped and put everything minus the lego guys back in the box and then the box got forgotten and eventually dumped.  We are so happy that Zane spotted it and brought it home.

chalkboard project checked off the list

Who knew that this little project would involve an entire furniture move in both the dining room and kitchen.  Maybe is was just an excuse to rearrange.  I like it.  Now I need chalk so I can write fun stuff.  I have one for Amanda's new place too - can't wait to give it to her.

soaking up sun at the lake

On the agenda today:
Relax at the lake!
At least hat was my agenda.
Justin's agenda was very different.
But I was able to relax for a few moments while he occupied himself with a water gun and I pondered....how does the kid that will not go down stairs at the mall or down an escalator lean over this deck rail.  Stairs are wey less scary dude!
Later he pointed his water weapon at me, probably because I was sitting down trying to kick back and relax again.  He wanted me to hunt down make believe bad guys with him but like I mentioned... different agendas caused a little conflict.
I always have grand notions of swimming and even put my suit on, but it was just too cold for me to go much further than my knees.

Ahhhh!  Sweet sweet warm sun/son.  You are my favorite!

Later we walked up "The Freckles Trail" to look at the memorial site for Connie.
The view is awesome!
Dad has been working on this to get it ready for the 1 year anniversary of her passing.  He has grass seed that is starting to sprout and benches that are waiting to be placed.  He has a bright purple metal box that the ashes will go into in the ground.  It is all pretty special.

Here is Justin
{aka: I have a different agenda than my mom does}
letting me know he is done cooperating.

Dad has also been making major progress on the area that will {someday} be the living room and under that a few bedrooms.  He got "red taped" for not working with a permit so this is on hold for a bit.  But is it looking great!  And again I ponder... going down an escalator scares him but he has no problem standing here.???

Justin's annual measuring on the wall.  Every year we mark his height on the wall.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happpppeeeee
