The birthday boy wanted a Great Britain flag cake.  

With it being Thanksgiving week I didn't want to do fondant so I made the flag pattern out of M-n-M's.  A rectangle cake would have been easier but he wanted his cake made in the "wedding cake" pans.  Who can blame him - those pans were my favorite too for birthday cakes as a youngster.

We met up for dinner and seeing these two hanging out together is too much fun.

 Of course they were staying at a nearby hotel with a pool so we joined for a little pool party.

Hot Air Balloon Festival

We went to the Tigard Festival of Balloons tonight and brought Abbie along with us.  The weather was not looking good - and if it rains they won't  bring up the balloons.

 We killed time with snow cones.  You think the weather would be better in June, but it was cold!

 And after all that waiting we got the payoff we were hoping for!  The balloons came up!

First time in a plane...

Snapped this just as we were taking off - he thought it was pretty cool.

of course boredom sets in eventually, but then we see our first glimpse of this:

Next was a shuttle bus ride to get our rental car.  We were all a little cranky (hungry and excited) so we loaded our bags in to the mini-van and found some lunch.  We had a Hawaiian plate lunch (chicken, rice) and waited for Nick and Molly, whose plane was about an hour behind ours.  After loading them up we tracked down the hotel.

Let's get this vacation started!

 Picked mom up at the airport!  We are going to drive up to Seattle later today, spend the night and then we fly to paradise.

Tropical toes are a must have beach accessory so pedis were first on our agenda.

After Justin gets out of school we will pack up and head out.
